PORTAGE LAKES -- Since 1951, the Portage Lakes Kiwanis have brought Christmas to family and friends in a unique way.

Santa's 'Helpers' load up into vintage sleighs, towed behind SUVs, and with the help of Summit County Sheriffs deputies, hand-deliver 3,000 gifts to boys and girls waiting at their homes.

When the sleighs, loaded with presents and elves pull onto the street, blaring holiday music, kids young and old run outside.

But 9-year-old Ryin Jarvis has something on his list this year that won't fit in a box.

Ryin's 19-year-old brother, Cory, has been away at boot camp with the U.S. Marines.

Ryin's mother says her sons are very close, and all her youngest son has wanted for Christmas was for his brother to come home for the holidays.

At first, the family did not think the military would let the new recruits go, but when Private Cory Jarvis learned he'd be able to take a few days' holiday leave, he called his parents.

Together, they planned the surprise arrival in Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve.

It was a special night, made even more memorable for one family.
