Hundreds of thousands of workers across the country will see more money in their paycheck. Ohio is one of 10 states that increased the minimum wage starting January 1, 2013.

This boost will help an estimated 215,000 people in the state of Ohio, averaging an extra $340 a year.

For minimum wage earners, like Laurie Chastain at the Big Egg Family Restaurant in Cleveland, she makes the minimum base salary for tipped employees.

"Some people's tips have gone down a little because of the holidays and things like that," she said.

On the first day of 2013, Laurie will get a raise.

Minimum wage for tipped employees gets bumped up 8 cents an hour, to $3.93. Regular minimum wage goes up 15 cents an hour to $7.85.

"We work really hard so I'm glad that they are recognizing that we could really use it," she added.
