SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP - Asking police for a courtesy ride home didn't go quite as anticipated for one Springfield Township man.
Township police were investigating a report of a suspicious person at the Tri-County Plaza on Canton Road when they say they were approached by Daniel Beaver, 33.
Beaver told police he had been waiting for a cab for more than 30 minutes and requested a courtesy ride home. When officers performed a consensual search prior to giving him a ride in the cruiser, police say they found a woman's purse stuffed inside his coat.
Police later discovered the purse had been reported stolen by a patron at a local gaming room.
Beaver was booked into the Summit County Jail on charges of receiving stolen property, drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia.
