Report: Browns will interview Mike Zimmer

The Cleveland Browns will interview Mike Zimmer for their head coaching vacancy.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports first reported the story.

The 56-year old is currently the defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bengals had the sixth rated defense this past season. 

Zimmer started his NFL coaching career with the Dallas Cowboys in 1994 as a defensive assistant.  He worked under Barry Switzer.  Zimmer was promoted to defensive coordinator in Dallas in 2003.

In 2007, Zimmer accepted the Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator position.

He became the defensive coordinator with Cincinnati in 2008.

In 2009, Zimmer was named the NFL Assistant Coach of the Year from Pro Football Weekly/Pro Football Writers.

Zimmer is the son of fomer NFL player Bill Zimmer.  His son is Adam Zimmer who just finished his third season as an assistant coach for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Cardinals assistant Ray Horton is the only other defensive-minded candidate the Browns have interviewed for their head coaching vacancy.
