The most active weather in the country Wednesday occurred in the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley due to a storm that moved through southern Texas.

This storm pulled a tremendous amount of moisture out of the Gulf of Mexico and produced widespread moderate to heavy rain from central Texas through the Tennessee Valley. The dangerous part of this storm was its slow moving nature as it dumped several inches of rain on eastern Texas.

A line of light to moderate rain sweep through the Ohio Valley before turning into snow in Pennsylvania and New York in the afternoon and evening.

Meanwhile, a Pacific storm swept into Washington and Oregon, producing rain and high elevation snow in the Northwest and into Idaho. This storm is expected to move into California overnight and into Thursday, bringing chilly temperatures and low elevation snow to the Golden State.

The Northeast rose into the 30s and 40s, while the Southeast saw temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The Northern Plains rose into the 20s and 30s, while the Southwest saw temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
