COLUMBUS -- Ohio Jewish organizations will receive more than $32,000 in unclaimed funds through an ongoing outreach effort by the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Unclaimed Funds.

David Goodman, Director of the Ohio Department of Commerce, presented a check for $32,586.61 to Joyce Garver Keller, Executive Director of Ohio Jewish Communities.

The organization will distribute the funds to various Jewish organizations throughout Ohio who had unclaimed funds accounts.

Think you might have unclaimed funds waiting for you?  Ohioans, public agencies and businesses can search for unclaimed funds on the Division's Online Treasure Hunt at www.unclaimedfundstreasurehunt.ohio.gov or call the Division toll free at (877) 644-6823.

Unclaimed funds consist of monies or the right to monies that have been dormant. These funds are reported to the State of Ohio for safekeeping until the rightful owners can be found. Common examples include dormant saving accounts, credit balances, cashier's checks and refunds from utility and insurance companies.

Division staff recently worked with Ohio Jewish Communities to inform them of unclaimed funds available for Jewish organizations around the state.

The Division forwarded a claim form and worked with Ohio Jewish Communities so they can claim and distribute the funds to each organization that was due unclaimed money.

Goodman said "Virtually every person or organization can have unclaimed funds from time to time and we want to encourage all organizations - non-profit organizations, public agencies, businesses and individuals to regularly search for and claim their unclaimed money.
