NORTH OLMSTED - Westfield Great Northern has announced a project that will bring new shopping space, restaurants and a multi-screen theater to the shopping center this year.
The centerpiece of the project is the construction of a 10-screen, state-of-the-art Regal Cinemas that has a scheduled opening of December 2013.
"Answering the community's request to bring movies back to the Great Northern retail district is rewarding," said Mike Walsh, the center's general manager in a released statement.
The Regal Cinemas will include a unique auditorium that will allow for movies to be presented with uncompressed surround sound and high tech digital images as well as luxury seats. The movie theaters in the new complex will include a system to assist patrons with hearing and sight special needs.
The new theater and several new restaurants are being built in the area of the former food court. The project will also add 6,000 square feet of new retail space at Great Northern.
The plan announced Thursday also includes the construction of a new main entrance to the shopping center.
