CLEVELAND -- 2012 marked a milestone for the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo as it was the 20th consecutive year that more than one million people walked through the gates.
According to zoo officials, attendance in 2012 tallied 1,170,443 guests. In 2011, that number was a tad higher at 1,318,458.
This 20-year streak coincides with the 20th anniversary of the RainForest exhibit.
Two attendance records were broken in 2012 at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, including the highest November attendance ever with 55,999 guests and best Thanksgiving Day with 15,249.
The busiest day of 2012 was June 25 with 15,732 guests, the slowest day was Jan. 13 with 160.
2012 also welcomed a trio of new species, including an aye-aye, a Persian onager and two dingoes.
