AKRON, Ohio -- Police have charged a 48-year-old man in the shooting death of his 4-year-old son.

Terrance Allen faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, felony child endangering, weapons under disability and tampering with evidence after his son was fatally shot in the head Wednesday morning.

He will be held in the Summit County Jail.

Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards says authorities were alerted to the situation when Allen flagged down a Summit County Sheriff's deputy around 10 a.m. to tell them his son had been shot.

The child, who was found with the gunshot wound inside a vehicle at Davies and South Arlington, was taken to Akron Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:31 a.m.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the boy as Jamarcus Allen. An autopsy will be conducted Thursday.

A handgun was recovered in the car.
