CLEVELAND -- Sixteen people have been indicted on charges including drug trafficking and money laundering for their alleged roles in a ring that federal prosecutors say brought cocaine, heroin and marijuana into Cleveland from Chicago.

Steven M. Dettelbach, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, and Robert L. Corso, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA made the announcements Thursday.

According to the indictment the alleged ring operated between March and September 2012.

In a written release, Corso said the ring was unique in that it supplied the west side of Cleveland with an array of illegal drugs. "These arrests effectively cut off a pipeline that fed the streets of Cleveland."

Dettelbach said the arrests "should send a message to those who seek to profit from the drug trade."
