MEDINA COUNTY -- A Sagamore Hills man has died after turning a gun on himself following a scuffle with a Medina County deputy.
According to the sheriff's office, callers alerted deputies about a man walking along I-271 last night. A deputy spotted the man near Route 94 and asked if the man needed help.
As is customary, the deputy told the man he had to pat him down first and he complied. The search revealed the man had three weapons. The man then struggled with the officer and took off running onto Route 94.
The sheriff's office says the man ran into a wooded area where he shot himself once in the head. His car was located at a rest area on I-271 in Summit County.
Police say the man was wanted for questioning in connection with some break-ins in Cuyahoga County.
His family says the 27-year-old is a decorated Marine who had just returned from Afghanistan in August 2012.
