ELYRIA -- An Elyria mother is facing a charge of child endangering after police say her 3-year-old son was found walking in traffic early Wednesday.
Police were called to 6th & East just after noon for a report of an unsupervised child walking in the street. Officers found the boy in the care of two women who had brought him safely off the road while police were called.
The boy told police his name was "Trevor Trouble."
An officer recognized the child from an earlier incident and a search of police records led police to the boy's home. When officers arrived the mother, they said, appeared to have just woken up and did not know the boy was gone.
The mother told police she had been meaning to install alarms on the doors but had not done so yet.
Police say this is the third time the boy has wandered away from home. Other incidents were reported in January 2013 and October 2012.
