BROOKPARK -- Ford Motors has announced a $200 million investment in its Brookpark engine plant.

The announcement comes after workers approved a deal that the union claims paves the way for up to 750 new jobs coming to the plan over the next few years.

Ford announced a commitment to 450 jobs.

The plant will make a smaller version of its popular EcoBoost engine now used in trucks. The new engine will go into Ford's popular models including the Fusion, Focus, Escape and Edge.

Right now that product is made in Valencia, Spain.

More customers are choosing the engine as it becomes available on more models.

Ford says new production here will begin in late 2014.

The announcement guarantees Brook Park's plant will play a vital role in Ford's encouraging future.

Brook Park Mayor Mark Eliot says the announcement is good news for city coffers.

Many workers said the news gave them hope of being able to retire from the plant.

Many of the new workers are expected to come from downsized or closing Ford plants including Walton Hills.

Ford will be receiving job training money from the state and a five year extension of a job retention tax credit worth $5 million.

Mayor Eliot said he expects Ford to ask for a tax abatement the city will likely grant.
