AVON -- Police say they have found nothing to substantiate a threat rumor directed at Avon High School that has been circulating on social media.

An Avon student who attends Lorain County JVS originally posted a message at the end of January that made reference to Feb. 21 as a date that would be remembered.

From a reposting of the message, police say rumors developed that there were possible threats to students and say the rumored threats became increasingly elaborate as the message circulated.

Police began investigating at the beginning of February and could not substantiate any credible threat. When posts began circulating again on Feb. 20, police and administrators again investigated and found nothing to substantiate the threats towards any student, employee or facility.

As a precaution, uniformed and plain clothes police officers provided extra patrols inside Avon Schools today.
