SANDUSKY -- A Sandusky mother faces criminal charges after admitting to covering her son's eyes and mouth with duct tape and giving the same treatment to her friend's daughter.
The children are eight and 12 years old.
The mother, Tiffany Ennis, told the child's father it was just a joke after sending him a cell phone photo of it on Monday.
The father didn't think it was funny. Instead he called the Erie County Sheriff's Department. The photograph was all it took for the prosecutor to seek charges.
"I'm upset about it. I don't have my kids," the father, Rudy Yado said. "My sister is in tears. My mom's upset. My brothers are upset. This ain't right."
Ennis has been charged with two counts of child endangering. She's fighting it. Ennis maintains it was just a joke.
The boy's parents were never married but Yado says they have a good relationship, but says he feels betrayed and helpless.
"Why does she have custody of my kids? What else could happen to them down the road?" Yado asked.
Ennis went before a municipal judge this morning. She pleaded not guilty to two counts of child endangering. The trial is set for May 30.
The maximum penalty is 30 days in jail and a $1,000 fine for each count if convicted.
