In the moments after Channel 3 News morning show anchors Erin Kennedy and Chris Tye broke news about a shooting at Chardon High School, a mother of a student at the high school called the station looking for information.
Her name was Kim Schuler and her son, Nick, was trapped in the school as the shooting took place. Nick called Kim while in hiding to tell her he was OK and then texted updates of what was happening in the school.
A Channel 3 News producer asked Kim if she would consider going on-air to inform people of what she knew. Kim agreed and was able to supply details in the early stages of the shootings.
The call lasted 10 minutes, however, the experience resonated with Kim and the anchors to this day, so much so that they got together nearly a year later to meet in person.
