MEDINA COUNTY -- State Route 3 has reopened between Good and Chippewa roads following a crash that took place shortly before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The Montville Police Department says the roadway was closed until after 6 p.m. for repairs needed as a result of spilled asphalt, which one of the vehicles was carrying.
Police say the crash took place when the driver of a semi-tanker loaded with liquid asphalt crashed into the back of a slow-moving farm tractor as it was hauling six bales of straw on a utility trailer.
The tractor driver was ejected as his trailer went off the right side of the roadway. The semi rolled over and traveled partially off the right side of the street, spilling part of the liquid asphalt onto the road and shoulder.
It took emergency personnel three hours to free the semi driver who was trapped in the cab of the semi. Authorities say he was alert and responsive for the entire ordeal.
The farm tractor driver reportedly refused immediate medical treatment at the scene, but later arrived at a local emergency room where he has since been released.
The crash remains under investigation and witnesses are still being interviewed.
No charges have yet been filed as authorities say it is too early to determine who is at fault.
Emergency crews from multiple departments responded to the scene, including the Montville Police Department, Medina Fire Department, Medina Life Support Team, Medina Township Police, Seville Police, Seville Guilford Fire and EMS, Medina Township Fire Department, Lafayette Fire Department, Medina County HAZMAT, Medina County Emergency Management, ODOT and the Ohio EPA.
