VATICAN -- While the world watches and waits for the College of Cardinals to select a new pope, all eyes are focusd on the chimney of the Sistine Chapel.
But for quite awhile on Wednesday the eyes of the world were also focuses on a solitary seagull who stole the show from the Cardinals below.
The seagull has become such a hot topic that somebody created a Twitter account for the bird: @SistineSeagull.
The bird perched atop the chimney, seemingly oblivious, to the world's attention or the role that perch will play in the future course of the Roman Catholic Church.
The Cardinals are meeting in the second day of the conclave to elect a new pope. A two-thirds majority or 77 votes is needed to become the new pontiff.
Pope Benedict XVI resigned the papacy on Feb. 28. He was the first pope to step down in centuries.
