AKRON -- A 28-year-old Akron man has been arrested on multiple charges for allegedly robbing a Dollar General at gunpoint.
Akron Police say it was around 12:30 p.m. Monday when employees at the store in the 1000 block of Vernon Odom Blvd. reported they had been robbed by a man with a handgun.
While inside, the suspect reportedly demanded money from the cash register before ordering all of the employees to the back of the store.
One of the clerks was able to call police while the suspect was demanding another employee to open the safe.
When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect, identified as Joseph Burnett, fled out of a rear door. After a brief foot chase, Burnett was apprehended in the 1300 block of Dover Avenue.
He had a loaded .44 caliber revolver in his possession, according to police.
Burnett was booked into the Summit County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, carrying a concealed weapon and having a weapon while under disability.
