T.J. Lane wears a T-shirt that says 'KILLER' during his sentencing hearing for the three murders he admitted to at Chardon High School.
CHARDON -- When T.J. Lane entered the courtroom for his sentencing hearing Tuesday morning, he unbuttoned his blue dress shirt to proudly show off a message: "KILLER" was written in large, black letters on his white T-shirt.
In response to many wondering why Lane was permitted to wear the shirt so brazenly in the courtroom, the following statement was released by the court's bailiff on behalf of Judge David Fuhry:
The court was unaware of the shirt. The court did not notice the shirt. Had the court noticed the shirt, the court would have immediately stopped the proceedings, adjourned the court and the court would have ordered the defendant to put on proper attire.
Ultimately, Lane was given three life sentences for his role in the fatal shootings at Chardon High School on Feb. 27, 2012.
