KENT -- Jobs in the insurance industry could soon be booming.
With Ohio being the 7th largest insurance state in the country, insurance companies in the Cleveland and Akron areas are expecting to fill more than 17,000 jobs in the next 5 years.
On Tuesday, Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor joined Kent State University and Westfield Group in an effort to attract thousands of people to career openings in the Ohio insurance industry over the next few years.
A new program called "Insuring Ohio Futures" is looking for talented people to fill the gap.
"Insuring Ohio Futures" says they plan to reach out to students, military veterans and those looking for a career change.
This fall, Kent State says they plan to expand their programs in insurance degrees, which will include an on-line option.
