GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio -- One person died in a car crash in front of a Garfield Heights gas station early Wednesday morning.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office has identified the victim as 44 year old James Simmons of Cleveland.

Simmons  was headed south on E. 131st street when witnesses say he lost control of the vehicle. The car hit a curb, shearing the underside of the car, throwing Simmons from the car in front of the USA Gas station between Alvin and Saybrook avenues, around 1:30 a.m.

Some witnesses said the car was traveling very fast just before the crash.

The cause of death will be determined by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.

Simmons  was the only person in the car at the time of the crash.
