AKRON -- Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh confirmed that Judge Alison McCarty sentenced Curtis T. Howard, 56, of Akron, to the maximum sentence of eight years in prison.

Howard was staying at a boarding house in Akron in September, when he got into an argument over the television volume with one of the other men staying there.

Howard hit the man in the face and then cut him under the chin with a pocket knife. Howard then chased the man out of the house.

Two of the men staying at the boarding house heard Howard yell "I am going to kill you!" while running after the victim.

The victim's injuries required 19 stitches. This is the third time Howard has been charged with felonious assault for slicing the face of a homeless man.

In 1994, Howard beat a man with a napkin holder and cut him in the face with a box cutter during a fight at St. Bernard's.

Howard cut another man's face with a box cutter during a fight in 2006.

Howard pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in both of those cases when the victim failed to appear for trial.

On March 12, a jury found Howard guilty of one count of felonious assault.
