NORTH RANDALL, Ohio -- Thistledown is set to reopen with over 700 new employees and new games like the Wizard of Oz and Pawn Stars. However, they know they have their work cut out for them in an over-saturated market.
Since the passage of State Issue 3 in 2009, venues like Thistledown have decided to reboot with video gaming. It's taken months of renovation and $88 million, but the revamped racino is opening its doors on April 9th.
They'll have a head start on rival, Northfield Park's expansion, which is still under construction. Competition will be fierce amidst Thistledown, Northfield Park, and the Horseshoe Casino.
Governor Kasich has given Thistledown the option of moving to the Akron/Canton area, but General Manager Rick Skinner says while that is something being discussed, right now it's all about the relaunch. He feels their outstanding customer service will set them apart.
