ASHTABULA -- An ex-convict charged with killing his father at an Easter Sunday church service in Ohio made rambling comments during an appearance in court and the prosecutor requested a psychiatric evaluation.

Easter services had just let out when the shot went off just outside the side door of Hiawatha Church of God in Christ.

Richard Riddle, 52, a well known and respected member of the church lay dead. His son, Reshad, 25, the alleged killer.

After the shooting witnesses say the gunman walked into the church shouting about God and Allah and made his way to the pulpit where he continued ranting.

Parishoners were hiding in bathrooms and under pews. Police arrested him without further incident.

Monday in court, Riddle continued his rhetoric, asking the judge, "Whose laws have I broken?" to which the judge replied, "The state of Ohio, sir."

Riddle's uncle, Adam Holman is a deacon at the church and was also hiding from the gunman, and then he realized it was his nephew.

"He and his father argued and fussed but I never knew him to want to go through violence," Holman said.

Riddle is facing aggravated murder and two gun charges and could face the death penalty. No plea was made in the case on Monday.
