COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The governor's plans to expand Medicaid under the federal health law won't be included in the Ohio House version of the state's two-year budget.

A person with knowledge of the budget negotiations confirmed to The Associated Press on Monday that House lawmakers will strip the idea from the spending blueprint. The person requested anonymity because the information had not been made public.

A Republican-controlled House committee plans to unveil its changes to Gov. John Kasich's budget on Tuesday.

Many GOP lawmakers are averse to Democratic President Barack Obama's law and resistant to expanding government programs.

House lawmakers were expected to remove the Republican governor's proposed tax hike on oil and gas drillers and sales taxes on professional services. And they want to significantly rewrite his proposed school-funding formula.
