CLEVELAND -- Cleveland City Council members Zack Reed, Phyllis Cleveland, and Mamie Mitchell, along with the Cleveland Police Department and Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, will meet at 6 p.m. tonight at E Prep Woodland Hills Campus, at 9201 Crane Avenue near E. 93rd Street and Union Avenue, to address safety concerns after a number of homicides and rapes in and around E. 93rd Street in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Division of Police Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit is investigating a kidnapping/gross sexual imposition incident which occurred March 30 in the 2900 block of East 116th Street.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., the 20-year old victim reported she was walking to work when an unknown black male suspect approached her from behind, grabbed her, and dragged her toward an abandoned house where the suspect assaulted the victim and attempted to remove her clothing.

The attack was thwarted when a woman and two men approached in a blue Pontiac during the attack and yelled, causing the suspect to flee.

Anyone with information relating to either case is asked to contact detectives in the Homicide Unit or the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit at 216-623-5630.
