COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A central Ohio man who said he shot his wife four times in the head because she refused to get out of bed has been sentenced to life in prison.
Prosecutors said 61-year-old Thomas Edwards was drunk when he killed 60-year-old Teresa Edwards last May at their home in the Columbus suburb of Gahanna.
Edwards pleaded guilty Tuesday and was sentenced to life with a chance for parole after 28 years.
He told police he killed her after she refused to get out of bed at 5 a.m. to go buy a car with him.
The couple had been married 34 years. The Columbus Dispatch reports that Teresa Edwards' son, Brian Swartz, told the judge his stepfather is a volatile man who couldn't stay away from alcohol.
