MEDINA -- Police Chief Patrick Berarducci accidentally shot himself in the thigh with his own gun while at home Thursday morning.
Police tell Channel 3 that Berarducci was getting dressed about 9:30 a.m. when he put his gun in his holster and the trigger got caught and it discharged, according to police officials.
The bullet struck him in the thigh and exited four inches lower down his leg.
Berarducci called police dispatch for a cruiser to take him to the hospital but the dispatcher sent an ambulance instead.
Berarducci, 62, was taken to Medina General Hospital, where he was released shortly after 1 p.m., according to police.
