CLEVELAND -- Calling it a "big announcement," Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald is announcing at three events next Wednesday to finally tell the world he is running for Governor.

In an e-mail, he says "I've been exploring a run for Governor because the people I've met have said time and again that we need new leadership in Ohio."

"We need a governor who will stand up for middle class families, for women's rights and for good paying jobs. Ohioans want an end to pay to play politics, rampant cronyism and wasteful spending of our tax dollars on corporate donors and political perks," he continued.

He will hold events in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati.

His announcement is expected to soon trigger a wave of candidates who want to succeed him as Cuayhoga County Executive.

Those mentioned or already declaring they are interested include Democrats State Representative Armond Budish, former Cuyahoga County Treasurer Jim Rokakis, University Circle Inc. head Chris Ronayne and former Cuyahoga County Sheriff Bob Reid.

Republicans mentioned include County Council members Dave Greenspan and Jack Schron , Strongsville Mayor Tom Perciak and State Senator Tom Patton.
