KNOXVILLE -- Cleveland Browns owner/Pilot Flying J CEO Jimmy Haslam made a 14-minute statement just after 3 p.m. Monday.
He spoke from the headquarters of Pilot Flying J and said there are five things "...we have done or are already doing..." following the federal raid last week in an investigation of alleged rebate fraud.
Haslam, 54, says he has worked here for 36 years and "...I've never been more embarrassed...."
Haslam said Pilot Flying J is doing or has done five things "...four of which we would have done if we had discovered this ourselves..."
First they have launched an internal investigation; they have placed members of the sales administartive team on administrative leave indefinitely; they have halted all manual transactions; they have appointed a chief compliance officer; and they will be bringing in a special outside investigator to run an independent investigation and that person will answer to the board of directors, not Haslam.
Despite reports he might step aside as Browns owner amid a federal investigation, Haslam has not.
Haslam has repeatedly said that his company will be completely cooperative with authorities throughout the investigation.
Pilot Flying J's headquarters were raided last week by the FBI and the IRS.
