CLEVELAND -- A full-scale emergency exercise and training will be held today at Progressive Field.
The event is a drill only and has been planned for six months.
The City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and emergency response agencies will take part. The organizers say there will be no interruptions in public safety services as a result of the drill.
Although this event has been planned for months, recent events in Boston and West Texas show the need for exhaustive training for emergency responders, according to organizers. The exercise allows those involved to learn in real-time how to handle major emergencies.
This is the second time Progressive Field has hosted such a drill. The last time was in 2001. Last year's exercise was held at Hopkins and the Port of Cleveland.
Staging for the event is on Eagle and East Ninth Street. The public may hear or see sights and sounds related to the exercise and are reminded it is a drill. One southbound lane of East Ninth will remain closed until 3:30 p.m.
