AKRON -- Today was the National Day of Prayer and as usual, a large crowd of people gathered on the Summit County Courthouse steps during the noon hour to pray.
According to Summit County Sheriff Steve Barry, after the group dispersed, an unattended black backpack was discovered lying next to the courthouse steps by Deputy Jeff Smith, who reported the finding to Courthouse Security Commander, Lieutenant Kandy Fatheree.
The area in front of the courthouse was sealed off.
Members of the Summit County Sheriffs Bomb Squad were already in the immediate area, and quickly responded to investigate the suspicious article due to its appearance and discovered location.
The investigation by the Sheriffs Bomb Squad proved the backpack contained no harmful contents, was apparently accidentally left at the scene.
Ownership of the backpack is attempting to be determined by Sheriffs personnel.
