The Cleveland Orchestra is internationally known, but from May 11th to the 17th, they want to get to know you. The Orchestra is making itself at home on Cleveland's west side.

The Cleveland Orchestra has started its very first neighborhood residence in Northeast Ohio. Musicians like cellist Brian Thornton, are performing in stores, bars and art galleries throughout Gordon square.

"Kind of getting out in the community. Having people enjoy the music in different kind of setting and it's free," said Thornton.

The week is packed with 16 events in 14 different locations. For violist Joanna Zakany, it's an opportunity to ditch the formal wear and have some fun.

"What's very interesting about playing outside the concert hall is that there is a different kind of energy. I mean we play differently," said Zakany.

"I love when someone comes up and talks to me while I'm playing. Kind of sounds like a silly thing to say but I really love when some one really feels good enough to reach out to me while I'm playing," said Thornton

Sweet Moses, an old time soda fountain shop on Detroit Ave., will serve up sweet treats and sweet music when the Youth Chorus Chamber Ensemble performs.

"It's like seeing your favorite band but instead of seeing them at Quicken Loans Arena, you are seeing them at your favorite coffee shop or your favorite little bar. It's a completely different way to experience these musicians," said Jeff Moreau, owner of Sweet Moses.

The musicians hope to convert the curious into fans.

"It will be sortof  like a lightbulb goes off, 'Hey, I didn't know I liked Beethoven.' I think it's really great to for people to experience different types of music," said Zakany.

There is a full concert Thursday night, which will be the first time the entire orchestra has preformed on Cleveland's west side in 30 years.
