BAY VILLAGE -- Drunk "designated driver" leads police on pursuit not once but twice before he crashes, according to police.
At midnight Saturday, police tried to stop a vehicle on Wolf Road near Sutcliffe Drive for a traffic violation.
The vehicle drove off and the officer pursued briefly before calling off the pursuit because of the high speeds and wet roads.
A short time later, the officer located the same vehicle stopped in a front yard on Wolf Road near Bay High School, at which time the vehicle drove off again.
The officer pursued the vehicle again and this time the vehicle crashed into two poles at the intersection of Wolf and Walmar roads.
The driver, 26, who police say was highly intoxicated, claimed to be the designated driver for the evening but was knocked unconscious from the crash.
He was taken to St. John Medical Center in Westlake with non life-threatening injures.
He was charged with reckless operation, fleeing, and OVI and will face those charges in Rocky River Municipal Court.
