CANTON -- A bicyclist was seriously hurt when he was struck by a Canton City Fire truck early Tuesday morning.
The Ohio Highway Patrol says the fire truck was heading eastbound on Fulton Road and proceeded through a green light to turn northbound on 25th Street NW when the westbound bicyclist failed to stop for at a red light.
He was struck around 2:56 a.m. and was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.
The bicyclist, who was reportedly wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident, remains unidentified because authorities could not find any ID on him.
His condition is unknown at this time.
Authorities say the fire truck was not in emergency response. It was returning to station #4 located at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and 25th Street NW after responding to a crash on Fulton Road at I-77.
The accident remains under investigation.
