CLEVELAND -- The legal team representing accused kidnapper and rapist Ariel Castro is getting blasted on social media websites for comments they made to the Investigator Tom Meyer in an exclusive interview Tuesday.
"He(Castro) robbed these women of a decade of their lives, raped and abused them. If that isn't a monster, then dear Lord, I never want to see one," said Rita on Facebook.
Attorneys Craig Weintraub and Jaye Schlachet say Castro is not the monster everyone is making him out to be.
"He loves his daughter very much," said Weintraub. He's referring to the child Castro had with Amanda Berry in captivity at Castro's Seymour Avenue home. DNA tests show that Castro is the father.
"All I can say is really! I can't understand how the attorney can even represent him. He loves his daughter. That is some sick love," said Donna, on Facebook.
Schlachet says the community must understand that every accused criminal has the right to a criminal defense attorey.
"Everyone wants to demonize this man before knowing the whole story. We are aiming to give him the best possible defense," Schlachet said.
Weintraub is a former prosecutor. Schlachet defended Cleveland serial killer Anthony Sowell.
Both lawyers say Castro will plead "not guilty" to all charges.
