Here are this week's American Family
Insurance All-Northeast Ohio Top 5 Performances of the Week.
Number 5: This week's
fifth-best performance comes from the baseball diamond and our first of three plays at the plate. In the photo, the Elyria baserunner tries to slip past the Lakewood catcher but is called out at home. Lakewood would win the game, 13-3.
Number 4: This week's
fourth-best performance also is a play at home plate as well, as the Brecksville-Broadview Heights softball team
traveled to Solon for a regional final contest. In the photo, Solon's baserunner slips by the Brecksville catcher with the umpire looking on. Solon would go on to win, 6-0, and capture the regional championship trophy.
Number 3: This week's
third-best performance is our final play at the plate. It took place during the Twinsburg-Walsh Jesuit baseball game. In the photo, the Twinsburg catcher applies the tag to the Walsh runner as he slides headfirst into home plate. The runner is called out. Twinsburg would defeat Walsh Jesuit, 1-0.
Number 2: This week's
second-best performance comes from the same game as this week's fifth-best performance, but occurred at a different base. This time, it's an attempted double play at second base. The Elyria runner slides hard into the bag, as the Lakewood shortstop leaps over the runner to attempt a throw to first base.
Number 1: This week's top
performance comes from the same game as No. 4. It's the Solon softball team's regional championship photo and is a shout-out to all the Northeast Ohio prep teams still alive in the postseason, as they progress down the tournament trail and continue their quest for a state title.
