SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. -- Two freight trains collided early Saturday morning causing extensive damage to a Highway M overpass.
The collision occurred on a stretch of tracks between Scott City, Missouri and Chaffee, Missouri.
Officials with the Scott County Sheriff's Department say that the trains struck each other at an intersection of two railroad tracks.
Several fire departments responded to the crash and extinguished a fire caused by the accident.
Seven people were injured as a result of the accident and transported to a local hospital.
Two of the injured were the train's conductors.
The other five individuals were in cars located on the overpass. All seven people are listed in fair condition.
