WILLOUGHBY -- According to the Willoughby Police Department, a man was ejected from his vehicle after being involved in a single motor vehicle crash on Ridge Road.
Benjamin D. Christman, a 35-year-old Eastlake resident, was driving westbound on State Route 84. As he approached the Shankland Road intersection, he drove off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole head-on.
The car snapped the utility pole into two pieces and continued westbound off the roadway, striking two other metal sidewalk poles with the driver side of the vehicle and a tree on the north side of the sidewalk. Mr. Christman was then ejected from the vehicle and landed on the ground.
Willoughby Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene. Mr. Christman was transported to Lake West Medical Center in Willoughby and later life-flighted to Metro Health Medical Center for treatment. He was in stable condition. It did not appear that alcohol was involved in the crash.
