SHAKER HEIGHTS - When it comes to backyard dangers, deer probably don't immediately come to mind.

But a Shaker Heights family is recovering after two run-ins with an aggressive female deer.

The family says on June 6 around 8:30 p.m., the doe attacked the family's Bichon dog leaving a deep gash.

The family's two daughters went with their mother to the vet to take care of the dog's injuries.

When they returned around 11:30 p.m., the father heard screaming from outside the house. He went out to find that the deer had charged at his wife and cut her leg.

He says he stepped between his wife and the aggressive deer and says the animal then tried to attack him with its hooves.

The homeowner fired one shot from a target-pistol and the deer ran back off into some shrubs.

Police say the animal was probably defending its family or food, prompting the aggressive behavior.
