DEL NORTE, Colorado - Firefighters say they need heavy rains or some other major change in the weather to stop an erratic blaze raging through drought-stricken forest in southwestern Colorado.

Incident commander Pete Blume says the fire that forced the evacuation of the tourist town of South Fork is so significant that crews need the help of wet weather to slow it down.

Blume says things are looking better for the town but it's "by no means secure."

More of the same dry, windy weather that has spread the fire in recent days is expected again Monday, well as across much of Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico.

The fire is 117 square miles with no containment.
