GRANGER TOWNSHIP -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol has filed charges against a driver in a deadly head-on crash that claimed the life of a Columbus man on SR 18 earlier this month.
Mateo Ralios Delacruz is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, receiving stolen property, falsification and OVI with a blood alcohol concentration level of .123%. Delacruz is currently in the Medina County Jail awaiting arraignment.
According to the Highway Patrol, following the June 13 crash, Delacruz, 22, identified himself to troopers as Gilberto Ralios, 20. However troopers say after further investigation, revealed the driver's name to be that of Mateo Ralios Delacruz, age 22, of Guatemala.
Troopers also say the car Delacruz was driving at the time of the crash had been reported as stolen.
The accident happened on SR 18 between Beach Road and SR 94. The car being driven by Delacruz burst into flames after impact. Two by-standers helped pull Delacruz from the burning wreckage. A passenger in a car struck head on by Delacruz died of his injuries.
