AKRON -- Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said D'Juan Shabazz Shields, 40, of Akron, pleaded guilty in the middle of his trial of raping a child under 13 and four counts of gross sexual imposition.
Shields raped and sexually assaulted two young girls in 2011 and 2012. At the time of his arrest, Shields was a teacher's assistant at Hyre Middle School, where he worked with autistic children.
Neither victim was a student at the school.
Visiting Judge Robert Brown immediately sentenced Shields to life in prison and deemed him a Tier III sex offender.
Shields will be eligible for parole after serving 10 years.
