PARMA -- Change is coming.

Initial work on the Shoppes at Parma -- formerly Parmatown Mall -- has started.

The first phase of the project will include the installation and construction of additional infrastructure -- work that includes restoration of the parking lots, installation of new lighting and new sidewalks.

"Before we can begin on the major phases of the project, we must lay the groundwork with this important first step," said Roy Williams, senior vice president of Phillips Edison's Strategic Investment Funds. "Construction of new buildings and major renovations will come at a later date. But we have started the process of reinventing this great retail tradition."

Williams says their plan is to "go far beyond a basic facelift and redevelopment for this long-standing regional shopping center. Besides bringing in additional shops, restaurants and services, we will create a more attractive, pedestrian-friendly, family oriented environment that will act as a town center for Parma residents and surrounding communities."

The initial infrastructure work is scheduled to be completed in the fall.

Planning continues on the construction phase of the project.

Phillips Edison & Company owns and manages more than 270 neighborhood and community shopping centers in 35 states.
