20-year-old Eddie Holecko is among the eight new contestants squaring off against eight former "Face Off" competitors in the show's fifth season, which premieres Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 9 p.m. (see a preview video at the bottom of this story).

His bio on SyFy.com says Holecko "studied practical and makeup effects" at Berea High School where he enrolled in a course taught by Jim Bycznski. He was in that class for three years before eventually landing at the Savannah College of Arts and Design in Savannah, Georgia where he studied visual effects.

"Ambitious and competitive, Eddie is inspired by Tim Burton ('A Nightmare Before Christmas'), and his creations often have a Burtonesque quality," his bio says. "His favorite movies with special effects are 'An American Werewolf in London' and 'Predator.'"

Holecko currently resides in Savannah, Georgia. He is the fourth Ohio native to compete on "Face Off" since the show's inception in 2011. Previously, Frank Ippolito, Beki Ingram and David "House" Greathouse, all originally from the Cleveland area, appeared on the show (season one, two and four respectively).

Ingram and Greathouse, a couple, both work for Robert Kurtzman's Creature Corps. in Crestline, which is near Mansfield. Every Halloween season, the dating horrorhounds volunteer many nights creating screams as actors at Bloodview Haunted House in Broadview Heights.

Season five of "Face Off" marks the first time the show has turned to the often-used reality twist of pitting new people  against a batch of contestants who have done it before. Among the returnees is Ippolito, who has since moved from Cleveland to Burbank, California.

Meet the cast members of "Face Off" season five:

"Face Off" is a reality competition with weekly eliminations based on the contestants' special effects makeup creations. Think of it as "Project Runway" with monsters, aliens, creatures and gore mixed in.

Ultimately, the last person standing wins $100,000 and a new car, among other prizes.

"Face Off" is hosted by actress McKenzie Westmore and judged by a panel of award-winning makeup artists, which includes Glenn Hetrick, Ve Neill and Neville Page.
