KENT -- On Tuesday, the Portage County Drug Task Force arrested and jailed Shawn M. Mitchell, 43, and Michael S. Genovese, 40, both of Erin Drive.
Both have been charged with illegal cultivation of marijuana in the vicinity of a juvenile and endangering children.
According to Sheriff David W. Doak, members of the Portage County Drug Task Force executed a court-ordered search warrant at the residence of Mitchell and Genovese, following a complaint from a citizen concerned about the welfare of a 10-year-old child living in an environment not safe or healthy for the child.
Task Force Agents located in the basement of the residence two areas where marijuana plants were being cultivated. A total of 80 marijuana plants with a street value of approximately $80,000 were recovered from the residence in various stages of growth.
In addition, drug paraphernalia was located inside the residence which included sophisticated grow equipment to include power supplies, lights, fans, filters and humidifiers along with other drug paraphernalia and several boxes of sandwich bags located in the master bedroom of the residence.
Task Force Agents will seek additional charges once the case is reviewed by the Portage County Prosecutor's Office and evidence is presented to a Grand Jury.
