It's the preseason for football and something I never expected to see in football has emerged from -- where else? -- Los Angeles, California.
Founding KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are partnering with the Arena Football league as owners of an Anaheim-based expansion team known as LA KISS. Games will be played at the Honda Civic Center.
After nearly 40 years of rock-and-roll, KISS "...prides itself on appealing to rock-and-roll fans from every strata of society - provided they enjoy anthemic arena rock and elaborate live shows performed by men in heavy makeup and shoulder pads" according to USAToday.
USAToday also wrote that "Asked if the new AFL owners will endorse their team's players wearing eye-black and face paint indoors, Stanley said, "We'll leave that to the people who are better suited to make those decisions. But I personally think a little black under the eye looks very good."
Know that the band's logo will be a part of the team's uniforms and I have added a photo to this blog to show you what it will look like.
LA has not seen professional football since two previous AFL franchises folded before the league canceled its 2009 season. Both Los Angeles-based NFL teams left the city after the 1994 season.
So why not try something really different?
I wonder what they will play during the games? 'Rock and Roll All Nite'? 'I Love It Loud'?
And KISS will perform the halftime show for the league's championship game -- ArenaBowl XXVI -- in Orlando, Fla. this Saturday. Among other reasons, I really wish I was in Orlando for that!
