  • CLEVELAND -- Case Western Reserve University is basking in the glow of some good press. The school was ranked number four in a national survey of colleges by Washington Monthly Magazine, beating out some historic academic giants.

    The first day of classes at Case came with national kudos for teh school, but the people there say it's about time.

    Washington Monthly Magazine's annual rankings of colleges that best contribute to the nation's future lists Case Western number four, above universities like Stanford and Harvard.

    The ratings focus on three categories: Recruiting and graduating low-income students, cutting edge research and community service.

    Three things university leaders say give their graduates a well-rounded education.

    Case Senior Derek Schadel plans to use his majors in spanish and medical anthropology to help people in latino communities.
