Patrol: Driver was drunk in crash that killed 2 people

EATON TOWNSHIP -- The driver in a crash that killed two people Sept. 1, 2013, in Lorain County was drunk, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Timothy Keating, 47, of North Ridgeville, who died in the crash, had a blood alcohol level of 0.212, more than double the legal limit to drive of 0.08.

Keating was driving north on Reed Road, north of Brokaw Road, when he lost control of his vehicle and drove off the right side of the road.

Keating was thrown from the car. His passenger, Paul Sonego, 55, of North Ridgeville was partially ejected from the car.

Sonego also died at the scene. According to the patrol, Sonego has a blood alcohol level of 0.073.

The car, a 1965 Chrysler New Yorker, was only equipped with lap belts. Both men were wearing them at the time of the crash.

The results confirm this is the sixth alcohol or drug-related fatal crash in Lorain County this year, according to the Highway Patrol.
